Starting point

Move routine patient arrivals away from the reception queue.

Egton had developed patient self-check-in software for GP surgeries and needed a dependable physical platform on which it could be used. The hardware had to present the application clearly, operate reliably in a public waiting area and be supplied repeatedly as deployment grew.

01

Software needed a physical home

A useful self-check-in application still needed a physical form suitable for daily use by a wide range of patients. The unit had to be straightforward at the point of arrival, robust enough for a public healthcare environment and consistent enough for Egton to deploy without redesigning the hardware at every surgery.

02

A repeatable surgery-ready unit

Egton supplied the patient check-in software, while BNR provided and integrated the hardware platform. Approximately 400 units were supplied, normally one per surgery and sometimes two where demand required it. BNR maintained the commercial supply relationship for seven years and provided extended warranties, commonly for three years, when requested.

03

A simpler route through reception

Patients could register their arrival without waiting for a receptionist to complete the routine check-in step. Egton and the surgeries reported shorter queues, faster check-in, more staff time for other work, a better patient experience and reliable hardware. Egton also gained a standardised platform for a deployment that reached hundreds of GP surgeries.

Relevant BNR capability today

Connect software to hardware that works in the public environment.

BNR retains the hardware-sourcing and integration experience demonstrated by this project. BNR can assess how patient-facing or customer-facing software should be packaged into dependable physical systems for repeated deployment.
