Starting point
Barbados Immigration Department had used IMCS for more than two decades. As border risks and processing expectations changed, it wanted fingerprint and facial checks to become part of live immigration work—not a separate biometric system that officers had to consult elsewhere.
Biometrics inside live operations
A biometric check had to fit the officer’s live task. Fingerprints and facial information needed to be captured consistently, compared with central records and returned in a form the officer could act on. The approach also had to work across airport and seaport processing while supporting person-of-interest investigations at immigration headquarters.
Building checks into IMCS
DPM Systems integrated capture and matching directly into IMCS. Audible and visual prompts guided the collection of up to ten fingerprint templates. Officers remotely operated high-resolution pan-tilt-zoom cameras to create facial templates. The system could confirm whether a traveller matched an existing record, or search stored records to help establish who someone might be. At the airport, seaport and headquarters, the result was displayed within the officer's established workflow.
Stronger identity assurance
Fingerprint and facial capture became part of the same IMCS workflow officers already used at the airport, seaport and headquarters. This improved border-security checks without sending officers to a separate system. DPM Systems (Barbados) Ltd also trained staff and continued to provide technical support.
